Job Summary:
The IT Specialist Intern supports the IT department in maintaining and improving the organization's computer systems, networks, and related technologies. This position provides hands-on experience in troubleshooting technical issues, assisting with system changes and upgrades in a day-to-day service desk role under the supervision of senior IT staff.
Essential Job Requirements:
Currently pursuing or recently completed an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Networking Specialist, IT Specialist, or a related field. Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. Knowledge of network and operating system fundamentals. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining documentation. Time management skills to balance multiple support requests or projects.
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of: Familiarity with Microsoft M365 environment preferred. Previous coursework, lab work, or on-the-job experience in IT Systems or networking preferred. Basic administration of Windows desktop and server (user accounts, shares, printers). Understanding of OS installation, imaging, updates, and patching concepts. Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, gateways, and subnetting at a basic level. Ability to read, follow, and create technical documentation, KB articles, and runbooks. Basic understanding of network concepts and operating systems.
Job Duties:
- Respond to help desk tickets and user support requests
- Maintain accurate logs of support requests and resolutions
- Troubleshoot technical issues under the guidance of IT staff
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as patching and updates
- Attend and participate in monthly team review meetings
- Assist with installation, configuration, and maintenance of workstations, software, and network hardware.
- Provide on-site technical support for special events or training sessions.
- Participate in system and network upgrade projects.
